My Trip From Chandigarh to Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a peaceful town where the holy Ganges River flows gently. It is known as the "Yoga Capital of the world" because people from all over the world come here to practice yoga and meditation. The town has a lot of famous and beautiful ashrams where you can learn about spirituality and connect with your inner self. Rishikesh is also famous for its adventurous activities like river rafting in the Ganges, bungee jumping, zip lines, and many more where we can spend very good quality time. Rishikesh offers a lot of beautiful green mountains and natural waterfalls. That is why I and my friends decided to plan a 3-day trip to Rishikesh from Chandigarh. This was my first time in Rishikesh so I was very excited to have fun in the holy place 'Rishikesh'.

Why did we choose Rishikesh?
We chose Rishikesh because it is not far away from Chandigarh and we have not a whole week to spend on a trip. It is also a beautiful and adventurous place near Chandigarh where we can experience beautiful nature and mountains, do a lot of adventurous activities, and visit the world-famous temples and ashrams. There were 5 friends on this trip and 4 among us, including me, never visited Rishikesh so we thought we must explore this beautiful place. So we started making the plan for our three-day trip to Rishikesh. The very first step of our planning was how to get there.

We considered several transportation options for reaching Rishikesh, ultimately we selected self drive car rental Chandigarh. We researched everything on the internet to determine the most convenient and comfortable method for our journey. We did not choose the train because they are often very crowded and the train schedule did not match our planned schedule. Additionally, exploring the entirety of Rishikesh without personal transportation would have been challenging. After comparing all available alternatives, we concluded that a self-drive car was the best choice for our trip. Here's why:

1. Flexibility: With a self drive car rental, we have the flexibility to go wherever we want, whenever we want, without being tied to public transportation schedules or dependent on others for transportation.

2. Convenience: They provide the option to pick up and drop off the car at our convenience, usually at locations convenient for us.

3. Cost-effectiveness: Depending on the destination and the number of people in our group, self drive car hire Chandigarh can be more cost-effective than other modes of transportation, especially for multiple-day trips.

4. Comfort: Having our own vehicle means you can control the temperature, music, and overall environment of our travel experience, leading to a more comfortable journey, especially if we are traveling with family or a group of friends.

5. Exploration: Self drive car rental allows you to explore things better. We have the choice to stop the vehicle anytime anywhere. We can explore things better without any worry.

6. Privacy: We have the privacy of our own vehicles, which can be particularly important for us because we prefer not to share transportation with strangers.

7. Safety: In the era of COVID-19 or other health concerns, car rental Chandigarh offers a safer alternative to crowded public transportation, where you can control the cleanliness of the vehicle.

So, these were the reasons why we chose to hire a self drive car in Chandigarh and it was our great choice. We need not to depend on anyone to go anywhere or can enjoy things as we want.
After that, we started the journey to Rishikesh on Friday night, approximately at 9:00 pm from Chandigarh, off course with our self drive car. Rishikesh is approximately 260 km from Chandigarh. I did not know the whole path but we took a rest and dinner in Paonta Sahib. Honestly, I did not remember the name of the hotel too, but the food there was good. After spending almost 2 hours there we continued our journey to Rishikesh. We reached Rishikesh in early morning, around 4-5 a.m. After reaching there we find a hotel to get fresh. Luckily we got a hotel very near to the Triveni Ghat in very affordable pricing. So after getting ready, we started our journey to Rishikesh.

Our Day 1 in Rishikesh

Lakshman Jhula: We begin our trip with Lakshman Jhula. Lakshman Jhula is a famous bridge in Rishikesh, it got its name because Lakshman crossed the river Ganges at this spot using a jute rope bridge, which later got replaced by the present-day iron bridge. The bridge stretches across the Ganges River, connecting two banks. It is a popular spot for tourists and locals. It was a little horrifying because the bridge was swinging in the air but it was a good experience.

Ram Jhula: As we moved about 2 km ahead, we saw the replica of Lakshman Jhula called Ram Jhula, only a little bigger in size. It is located near the Swarg Ashram area of Rishikesh and is one of the iconic landmarks of the city. The bridge got its name because it is situated near the temple of Lord Ram.

Kailash Niketan Temple: After this, we visited the Kailash Niketan Temple which is an ancient Hindu temple situated on the bank of Ganges River. This temple is popular by the name of Terah Manzil Mandir because it has 13 stories in the temple. It was really a great experience while visiting this temple. I can clearly feel the very positive energy of the temple which was really very peaceful. After exploring these things and their nearby market we go for lunch. The food there was average but the restaurant was situated on the bank of the river which was a great experience.

Triveni Ghat: After that, we reach the very sacred place, Triveni Ghat. It is called Triveni Ghat because three holy rivers, Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati merge here. We took a dip in the holy water and really enjoyed the beauty of nature there. We explore the nearby shops, temples, and much more on Triveni Ghat. Every evening, the Ganga Aarti is done on this ghat which I was waiting eagerly for. The Ganga Arti really gives me goosebumps. I was feeling that the decision to visit Rishikesh was perfect.

After enjoying the Ganga Aarti we did a lot of shopping and took pictures of the beauty of nature on the bank of the river. We enjoyed the snacks from the local vendors and after that, we reached the restaurant near our hotel and had dinner. That was our first day in Rishikesh.

Our Day 2 in Rishikesh

Yoga on the Ganga Ghat: As Rishikesh is known as the Yoga Capital of the World, we want to experience that also. So in the early morning, we reached the bank of the river to do yoga and when we reached there it was really beautiful. There was the sun rising over the Himalayas and a lot of people were doing different asanas. The sound of flowing water and cool breeze create a perfect environment. I was feeling that my every morning should start like this but it can not be. There were a lot of camps and classes on the river that can teach you asanas.

Bungee Jumping: Rishikesh has numerous adventurous activities one of them is Bungee Jumping. We got to the location to perform this activity. I was excited but there was also a fear in my heart. After reaching there they harnessed me securely and pushed me downward from a very high height. It was really very superb feeling, at first you will feel a lot of fear but when you feel the surroundings, it will feel like the greatest view. My experience of Bungee Jumping was excellent.

Neelkanth Temple: The Neelkanth Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. At this place, Lord Shiva Consumes the poison that is present in the river. His throat turned blue and that is why he got the name Neelkanth. This temple is dedicated to him. This temple has a lot of tiny sculptures that are wonders. There were also a lot of temples and fascinating spots nearby which you can enjoy.

Our Day 3 in Rishikesh

River Rafting in Sivpuri: On the third day we checked out from our hotel and moved to Shivpuri. It is situated approximately 20 km from Rishikesh. Shivpuri has very fast-flowing water from the Ganges River which is why a lot of people go there for rafting. So we also decided to go rafting in Shivpuri. If you have a fear of water then do not try this because the water there was flowing very fast and there were a lot of rapids along the way which was very horrible but adventurous. You might get splashed, bumped around a bit, and even fall in the water, but that is all part of the fun.

Neer Garh Waterfall: You should definitely add Neer Garh Waterfall to your list of places to visit. It is nestled in the middle of dense forests in the Shivpuri area, about 6 kilometers away from the main city. The waterfall has numerous shops and it comes from the top of the mountains which was a superb experience. It also has a swimming area where the waterfall falls where you can swim. It is around 6 feet deep. Remember to bring extra clothes because you might want to jump into the water! And after enjoying the waterfall, you can treat yourself to some hot Maggi and tea while taking in the stunning scenery. So, that was the end of the trip because we had to leave early. Overall, my trip to Rishikesh was excellent. I enjoyed everything there with a lot of photographs and memories. Self drive car hire Chandigarh makes it very easy for us to explore the beautiful place. We did not have to wait for cabs and public transportation to reach new destinations. I suggest you to bring self drive car to enjoy the trip with your own plan.
